Monitor Gin Gonic application with Prometheus metrics

In this article, I will show you how to integrate and monitor Gin Gonic application with Prometheus metrics.

First, let’s start by creating a new Gin web application.

$ mkdir gin-prometheus

$ cd gin-prometheus

$ go mod init petehouston.com/gin-prometheus

$ touch main.go

and initialize the barebone main.go for Gin.

To integrate Prometheus, we will import the provided Prometheus handler , and export the metrics to the route /metrics.

Make sure to import the package at the top:

Now, run the Gin web application and access the /metrics route from the browser, you will probably see something like this:
