In this article, I will show you how to integrate and monitor Gin Gonic application with Prometheus metrics.
First, let’s start by creating a new Gin web application.
$ mkdir gin-prometheus
$ cd gin-prometheus
$ go mod init petehouston.com/gin-prometheus
$ touch main.go
and initialize the barebone main.go
for Gin.
// main.go
package main
import (
"github.com/gin-gonic/gin"
"net/http"
)
func main() {
router := gin.Default()
router.GET("/", func(context *gin.Context) {
context.JSON(http.StatusOK, gin.H{
"status": "ok",
})
})
router.Run(":8080")
}
To integrate Prometheus, we will import the provided Prometheus handler , and export the metrics to the route /metrics
.
router.GET("/metrics", gin.WrapH(promhttp.Handler()))
Make sure to import the package at the top:
import (
"github.com/prometheus/client_golang/prometheus/promhttp"
)
Now, run the Gin web application and access the /metrics
route from the browser, you will probably see something like this:
